History
Perched medieval village, Grimaud dominated Golfe of Saint-Tropez during many years. At this time, the bay's name was actually Golfe of Grimaud. As the village dominates the bay, it makes it a strategic point in the 11st century to keep a watch on the Maures forest massif. Nevertheless, in the 15th century, Grimaud lost its influence in front of Saint-Tropez. Afterward, the castle is destroyed by religion wars in the 16th century, but it will be reconstructed in the next century. It's in the 20th century that François Spoerry, architect, achieve Port Grimaud instead of swamps. A new breathe from Venice comes in France.
Activities and excusions
The city suggests numerous attractions for young and old alike. Sports fans can play tennis, go on bike trips and also go-Karting. As for the bravest, they can make a first flight at the Grimaud helicopter station. For more peaceful activities, two golfs and two stables will make the happiness of parents and children. Port Grimaud
In 1967, under the warn sunshine of July, life in Port Grimaud began. The little town receives you in its pedestrian streets in the Italian charm. Divided into three districts, the 75 hectares constituting the lakeside village are composed by a church, several little shops, 2400 accommodations, seven kilometres of rivers, fourteen kilometres of quay, fourteen bridges and twelve islands.
