Plan-de-la-Tour

History

Plan-de-la-Tour has been created in 1792  further to the detachment of a part of the city Garde-Freinet. At this time, the biggest hamlet was Saint-Martin. The village has grown up in 1835 thanks to one thousand hectares from the west part of Sainte-Maxime. At the 16th century, Thoronet monks recaptured twenty five hamlets which constitute today Plan-de-la-Tour, which make it the largest village of Provence.

Heritage

From its history, Plan-de-la-Tour inherited from a patrimony. Saint-Martin church, its bell tower and former presbytery are the major monuments of the municipality. Today, you can find painting workshops and exhibitions at those places. Saint-Pierre Chapel invites you to discover its fig tree, majestic in the middle of its ruin. Prat Boudin standing stone is a must-see, from the Neolithic period, it will make you cross the time. The twenty five hamlets of Plan-de-la-Tour constitute the treasure of the municipality. Each one has its own story, its own memories and secrets, many treasures can be discovered !

Activities and excursions

In addition to its twenty five hamlets to visit, Plan-de-la-Tour offers a breathtaking landscape at Forge hamlet. You can do numerous hikes. The Gorgues path connects hamlets between them, lining the river, it allows you to discover Saint-Pierre Chapel and Prat-Bourdin standing stones. Several paths cross and uncross, inviting you to follow them and let you dreaming. Two riding schools suggest you escaping by horse. By bike, on foot or by horse, daydream will be a part of it, total immersion in nature guaranteed !

Outgoings

Art fans can find four art gallery including two workshop, and an antique shop. Gourmets can delight your taste buds at Plan-de-la-Tour wine grower, Maures cellar of visit the hives of the village beekeepers.

Numerous traditional parties take place in the village, especially the Corse de la Bruyères tanks in March, plant and olive oil party at the end of April or Saint-Pons in May.

From July to August, you can discover night-markets and ball by the town. A way to benefit from the beauty of the village during warm summer evenings.
